From the weave of the kupenga, an ika takes form.
The net becomes body.The body becomes net.
This work is an exploration of form and the relationship between ika, fish and kupenga.
Woven from netting, the fish takes shape from the same material used to catch it. The open weave creates the body, bringing the fish and the net together as one form.
Through weaving, repetition and tension, I am exploring how a simple material can be transformed into something recognisable, while reflecting the connection between ika, kupenga and the moana.
